Joulujuhla/Christmas Party

 Vuoden viimeisenä päivänä meillä oli perinteelliseen tapaan joulujuhla. Päivä alkoi tutulla tervetulolaululla. Sen jälkeen lapset kokoontuivat matolle avaamaan viimeiset luukut adventtikalenterista Virpin kanssa.
On the last day of this school year we had, as usual, a traditional Finnish Christmas party. The day begun with our own welcome song. Then the children sat on the carpet to open the remaining doors on the advent calendar with Virpi.

 Lapset kerääntyivät lavalle lauluesitystä varten. Meillä oli itsemaalatut poronaamarit ja punaiset nenät 'Petteri Punakuonon' esittämiseen. Paul Dillingham säesti pianolla lasten laulaessa useammankin joululaulun.

 Then the children gathered on the stage to perform their new and old Christmas songs. We had painted our own reindeer masks and wore red noses to sing 'Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer'. Paul Dillingham accompanied them with the piano as the children sang various songs in Finnish.

 Osallistumistodistukset, työkansiot, sarjakuvalehdet ja namit jaettiin lapsille Suomi Seura ry:ltä tulleiden kassien kanssa.
Attendance certificates, work folders, comic books and lollies were handed out to all the children with canvas bags we had received from Suomi Seura ry in Finland.

 Vielä oli aikaa vähän askarteluun ja leikkiin ennen ruokailua. Lapset koristivat nätit saamelaiset noitarummut perinteisillä shamaanirummun symboleilla.
We had a little bit of time to do some craft activities and play games before eating. The children decorated saame people's shaman drums with traditional symbols.

 He myös koristelivat Petteri Punakuonon näköisiä kuppikakkuja punaisin nenin.

 They also decorated cupcakes to look like Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer.

 Hetken aikaa lapset vuorotellen heittivät 'lumipalloja' lumiukon suuhun. Pienimmät pistivät päänsäkin sinne.

 For a little while the children threw 'snowballs' into the snowman's mouth. The smallest children even put their heads in.

 Lopuksi päästiin taas nauttimaan suomalaista jouluruokaa, jonka vanhemmat ja opettajat olivat yhdessä järjestäneet. Oli kinkkua, silliä, rosollia ja laatikoita glögin ja kylmien juomien kanssa. Kahvitarjoiluun jälkiruuaksi oli vielä kakkuja, pipareita ja joulutorttuja.
Finally we got to enjoy a traditional Finnish Christmas meal, which the parents and teachers had organised together. There was ham, herring, rosolli and various vegetable bakes accompanied by glögi and cold drinks. For dessert we enjoyed coffee, cakes, gingerbread and Christmas tarts.

Vaikka olikin kesäinen keskipäivä, niin kynttilät ja muut joulukoristeet antoivat todella ihanan joulutunnelman.
Although it was a summery midday, candles and other decorations gave it a wonderful Christmas atmosphere.
